The Truths We’ve Carried by Anne Fowler

Some truths live in the light; others survive only in our shadows waiting for courage to be uncovered. The Truths We’ve Carried is a collection of personal life events as narrated by ladies in their eighties. Surprising, sometimes shocking, revelations that recount a variety of experiences: romantic, dangerous, naughty, tragic, inspiring, funny, bizarre celebrity encounters and admirable lifetime achievements.

All proceeds will go to support Anne Fowler’s ongoing humanitarian work in Honduras.

Hey, Anne. welcome to my blog! I am excited to learn more about your new book The Truths We’ve Carried

The Truths We’ve Carried is a unique book containing a fascinating collection of true stories recounted by the women who “lived” the events described.

Here is a glimpse into the content. A Clandestine Romance, A Cannuck Meets a Yank in Paris, Ships Passing in the Night, Out of the Past… are all stories of romance. However, here are a few more examples of the 54 topics that demonstrate the book’s incredible variety of subject matter sure to pique your group’s interest!

Stranger Danger, I didn’t Get Caught, Escaping Castro, Lunch with Elvis, In the Right Place at the Right Time, My Plane Was Hijacked, Past Life, My Inspiring Parents.

Expect the unexpected, it won’t read as you thought!

Early reader feedback is now echoing that assessment with comments like: “I picked up the book thinking I’ll just read a few stories at a time; I couldn’t put it down and stayed up past midnight to finish!”
Another comment that needs no explanation: “It makes a great bathroom read!”

DO YOU REMEMBER how you got the initial idea for such a unique book? Would you share that moment with us?

I remember clearly! Following the release of my memoir in 2021 at the age of eighty, I frequently was contacted by women of all ages to discuss different events in my life and how they, or a family member, had experienced something similar.

Several of them were fellow octogenarians who expressed the regret that they’d never had an opportunity to write about things that they’d experienced years before that had made a major impact on their life. Although I had decided that I’ve Worn Many Hats would be a one off, I started thinking! What if I was to put together a collection of these stories as related by ladies in their eighties? So I issued a challenge on Facebook inviting them to share. I had no idea what to expect or how many would respond. This post was seen not only by women with a story to tell, but by the younger relatives and friends of ladies who are “less computer/social media active!” A call for action resulted: “Grandma/Mom/Aunt, you MUST share your story!” I’ll admit I was totally surprised not only by the number of submissions but by the variety of subject matter received from Canada, the US, Germany, Australia, England and Latin America.

Was there any special reason you decided to write this book?

There were several. First and foremost, I believed that these women’s stories deserved to be read. Also, I found myself intrigued by the challenge of how I would actually go about helping them to write their story. With some, I received a written version via email and we went back and forth exchanging drafts of the account until  we were both satisfied.

But I would estimate, that in almost 75% of cases the woman telling the tale was not computer savy and our communication involved obtaining help from one of her younger family members. A meeting with me was arranged, Facetime  set up and we would have a face to face conversation! While she told me her story, I took notes (it reminded me of being back in the school lecture hall!), we talked and got to know each other. I would then compose a rough draft based her notes and she’d type up her version in a draft. After a few tries, we would come up with the final version.

ARE YOU WORKING ON another book right now?

No, I have no plans to write another. But then again, that’s what I said last time!

YOU SELF PUBLISH. Why did you decide to take that route?

Money! I’m not a professional writer and since one of the reasons I wrote the books was to earn money to help support my work in Honduras, I went the cheaper route.

In 2021, at age 80, I published my first book, a memoir titled I’ve Worn Many Hats. Never once did I believe that I had it in me to write another book! Until I did…. and published The Truths We’ve carried in 2025.

October, 2026 I will enter the next stage of my life as I begin the last 6 months of living in Honduras. I am satisfied that the work I began 25 years ago will continue under the capable hands of our team members.
I have two children, two grandchildren, two grand dogs and outlived two ex husbands. My very full life has taken me down roads I never expected to travel… some filled with interesting, but risky, adventures. I’ve been accorded unforeseen opportunities both in business and my personal life, blessed with a loving family, supportive friends and the belief that I am following the path that God intended.
Life is good!
