Born Like This by Maggie Blackbird
She went back in time to rescue him. She never counted on falling in love…

Alma Whitecrow prefers hunting and fishing with men, not romancing them. But hearing about the roguishly handsome coureur de bois, who saved her sister from the Dakota, haunts her thoughts and dreams. Well-versed in surviving the wilds, Alma resolves to travel to the mid-eighteenth century, as her sister once did, to save the man from impending death.
Charlot Baudelaire thumbs his nose at society’s expectations, content living as a loner, trading with people he calls the Saulters. If he needs a woman for the night, there is always a willing maiden. What he doesn’t expect is a spunky and stubborn female warrior to challenge him.
Charlot is not the man Alma dreamed about, and Alma is not the kind of woman Charlot pursues. But the longer they are together, the more drawn to each other they become, until Alma faces the biggest decision of her life. Stay with a man who may never reciprocate her love, or return to her Ojibway home and bland existence.

Interview with the Author
Hey, Maggie Blackbird. Welcome to my blog! I am excited to learn more about that new book. Please, tell us about Born Like This, book two in the Maizemerized series.
1. As a romance writer, I suppose you read romance yourself. What genres do you love?
Maggie: I’m a huge historical romance reader. I got into this genre when my older sister passed me her copy of “Paradise Wild” by Johanna Lindsey. From then on, I was hooked on romance. But I read it all from historical to LGBTQ+. Sweet to steamy. Small town to big city. Mafia to billionaires. Working class to rock stars. You name it, I will read it, except for romantic comedies. I have read and reviewed a couple, but I prefer to stay away from the “funny.” I do post reviews from books I’ve read at my blog. You can find them here: https://maggieblackbird.com/blog
2. Do you read outside of romance, too?
Maggie: I sure do. I consider myself a reader first and a writer second. Currently, I am enjoying thrillers. This is a new genre to me, and I have read and reviewed three so far, and I must say I loved each one of them. It’s always fun when you find a new genre to read.
I am also a non-fiction hound. I enjoy reading everything from memoirs to historical accounts. Reading is fun.
3. Is there any special reason you decided to write this book?
Maggie: I had to write it LOL. It is the second book in the Maizemerized series. But I cannot take credit for coming up with the idea. Three other authors I know proposed the idea to our publisher. I agreed to come on board. Since I write exclusively about Canada’s Indigenous people, I had to come up with a story idea about corn, the maze, and how the Indigenous people were connected to it. So I decided on a contemporary heroine and her family for the first book, and how she travels to the past and encounters her ancestors.
4. Are you working on another book right now? Will it be in the same series?
Maggie: Yes, I am working on the third book in the series as I type this. By the time my blog post goes live, it will be done, and I’ll be deep into the fourth and final book in the Maizemerized series. There is a release gap between Born Like This and the first book Born for This. When I was writing Born for This, my dad was a big help with the research and we had fun yapping about the old times. But he passed away three months before Born for This was released. I had to take a step back from the series up until now, when I felt ready to dive back in without painful memories.
Author Bio

An Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario, Maggie resides in the country with her husband and their fur babies, two beautiful Alaskan Malamutes. When she’s not writing, she can be found pulling weeds in the flower beds, mowing the huge lawn, walking the Mals deep in the bush, teeing up a ball at the golf course, fishing in the boat for walleye, or sitting on the deck at her sister’s house, making more wonderful memories with the people she loves most.
